Centuries ago when we had to go out and kill for food we had fresher meets to eat, whereas today the meat is processed and has lost much of its nutritional value. People used to eat berries and fruits as they picked it, where as, today we go into the grocery store to purchase our fruits and vegetables. Schools today provide breakfast as well as lunch to students and even though they have certain guidelines to follow for nutritional value, they are also serving processed and unhealthy foods to the students which also creates unhealthy eating habits. Because the schools serve so many students both breakfast and lunch, plus they have to meet certain guidelines, our children have learned to have poor eating habits, and then continue these poor eating habits through out their life. This is why we’re also seeing more health problems into adulthood and beyond. We also need to learn about how different foods affect our body.
For instance, your body may not accept a lot of acidic types of foods. Different people who grow up in different cultures eat foods that are plentiful to that culture, then when they move to a different country they tend to take those same eating habits with them. A large chain grocery stores will tend to carry foods based on the people who live in that neighborhood. Because grocery stores use scanners at checkout counters, which are computerized, they can tell which items sell at a higher volume in different stores and that determines what they purchased to carry in those stores. When you grow up eating healthy meals and exercising on a regular basis, then it becomes a part of your routine on a daily basis, which will reduce obesity and also extend your life expectancy. Our ancestors ate healthier meals than we do today but they lived shorter lifespans only because they lived in a primitive era.
Antibiotics are regarded as miracle drugs. They are our most effective weapons against infectious diseases brought about by microorganisms. However, many bacteria are now able to resist the effects of antimicrobial agents. Antibacterial resistance is the ability of bacteria to withstand and overcome attacks by antibiotics. Increases in resistant bacterial strains are threatening to human health. In fact, such problem is wasting an already limited health care resource, (WHO). Antibiotics are medications used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria, fungi, and parasites. In the past, treating bacterial infections was very difficult. In fact, before the discovery of antibiotics, many patients contracting bacterial infections never made it out of hospital beds alive. This is why the discovery of antibiotics was one of the most important health advances in human history, (WHO). There has to be a solution to the rapid increase in antimicrobial resistant microorganisms. According to the WHO, there are two main factors responsible for the proliferation and spread of resistant microorganisms.
