Week 4 Discussion:

Lead-in:

For a healthcare provider, the decision about whether or not to participate in a plan offered by an insurance payer such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield depends on the specific advantages and disadvantages that the plan represents to that provider. As healthcare consumers, you need to make careful decisions about the providers you choose and understand the ramifications of having a participating or non-participating provider.

To Prepare for the Assignment:

  • Read Chapters 13 & 14 in Medical Insurance, an Integrated Claims Process Approach

With these thoughts in mind:

Post your primary response to DQ1 by Day 3: Suggest two benefits and two drawbacks to being a healthcare provider that is participating in BC/BS. Then provide two (2) benefits and drawbacks to not being a participating healthcare provider. Finally, suggest how this might affect a patient’s decision regarding the choice of their healthcare provider.
